Swot Diagram
Looking at what I have done I have successfully been able to identify all of the aspects effecting me in my SWOT chart. I have been able to identify my strengths and what can help me through my future careers, as well as what opportunities I have open to me that I can use to my advantage. I have also looked at my weaknesses that could have an effect on my gaining a career as well as any main threats that could prevent me from picking a good career path for my future.
Looking at my weaknesses, I need to figure out some solutions to help increase my chances of being successful in future work. The first weakness would affect me negatively if I were to pursue a career; this is my weakness in production skills. I could help solve this issue by doing more research into those areas of editing and lighting operation. Another problem that could really affect my ability to get a job would be my current mental health. As I have some problems with past experiences that have affected by current mental state I can struggle to be confident in myself and work. To combat with this I will be seeking help for my mental health and using the exercises in this unit to build up my confidence and prepare me for work. I can be too organised in my work and that can affect my work ethic this should not be a long term problem as the solution to this weakness is to keep my work space neat and tidy to provide a healthy work ethic. To combat my travel problems I will be using my opportunity for a drivers licence and will be learning to drive soon to provide me with easier transport to and from places of work. To help me with my nerves in this project I will be using this unit to help give me more confidence in my work and help me with job interviews for potential work. Again this unit will help me with my work insecurities and help me feel more prepared for my future work opportunities.
Next I will be looking for any potential solutions to the threats mentioned in the sector above. The first possible threat to my future is the location of where I live. To help combat this I will be taking time to work and save s I could potentially move to another area of England or even another country to find better work. My next threat is my personal financial situation. To help solve this I will be looking at the same solution as before where taking time out to work will help provide me with enough money to seek out other future opportunities. I do have a lack of connections in the media industry; this is going to affect how fast I can find work or apprenticeships opportunities. To help with this is will have to work hard to find more opportunities in work and make sure to keep numbers and names of previous co-workers. The final threat i have listed is my own personal nerves. This is not something that can be solved by hopefully will become clearer with a solution or even an answer with the help of this current unit.
Overall, I do have some solutions to help combat my weaknesses in work and providing me with the opportunity to work in a variety of career opportunities. This means none of my long or short term goals will be stopped by any of the weaknesses mentioned in the paragraphs above.
SMART Targets
- Target 1 – Experiment with 4 different setups when it comes too lighting for my next project and give the opportunity to understand what would be the most effective when making my video. – February 14th.
- Target 2 – I will research 4 different way lighting is used in media to know how I can most effectively use it in future projects. I will do this by looking at lighting in existing project and trying to recreate them in my own time. – February 14h.
- Target 3 – Experiment with 4 camera angles and shot types that I can implement into the practical side of my projects. – December 15th.
- Target 4 – Experiment with editing techniques such as different cut types when it comes to giving footage a cinematic look that is appealing to the eye giving my projects a more professional appearance. – February 14th.
- Target 5 - Experiment with new editing options into my work such as graphics and effects to make a shot look more interesting and gripping to the eye. – February 14th.

When college has finished for me I will be working on completing little tasks for my life such as fulfilling a complete drivers licence. From there I will spend the next year of my life working and building up enough money to eventually move up north to Leeds city. I would like to have moved by 2021. Whilst working for my move I will so be looking at small local media jobs I can partake in to keep my experience. This will prepare me for my move so when I move to the busier city area I can look for jobs in the subject of media I could take part in; preferably in camera work or smaller crew workers such as flaw manager. Whilst my work life is going on I hope to be living in an apartment and have a dog for company. By the year 2023 I hope to be working comfortably in a career and settling down in a flat preparing to move forward with my life with my personal choices and work choices. Aside from my work any relationships I have on the side I will consider extra, my main focus for the next 5 years will be settling myself down in my work and housing. When I feel comfortable with that I will then seek out potential relationships for long-term.
Interview Drama
We have been given the task to create an interview drama that
accurately represents how to correctly present yourself and answer questions
for a potential job or further education interview. For this tasks we were put
into teams of either 3s or 4s. The layout for this project would consist of 3 separate
sections, Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production. For the Planning we
would be designing our own idea and drawing the paperwork for that idea. The
following week we move on to production where we swap our work with another
team and film their idea using their pre-production. Following that week we
would move onto post-production, once again swapping work with a group who we
hadn’t previously taken part with. Again using the paperwork provided to help
us understand what we are to create for the final product.
Our idea for our trainee video was going to be inspired by a
90’s tv style when a person would be keyed in the corner on the screen proving
sign language explaining what’s going on so tv could be enjoyed by deaf people.
However, instead of sign language the person keyed in would be explaining the
errors in the interview video and explain what went wrong and how to correctly portray
they events in the video. This idea would potentially benefit someone preparing
for a future interview as it would provide a good example of how not to behave
in a professional environment for a job or course. Showing how to increase the viewer’s
chances of getting the job or course they desire. (See other pages for
development on this idea and product).
